Advent

I always feel exhilarated at this time in the Church's Year - it is not just that Advent is the first season in the Calendar and that we are on the brink of beginning the observance of so many great Christian themes for the coming 12 months. Nor is it because it is time to dig out my famous purple boots once again. No, it is because Advent is packed with so many delights both within the liturgy and beyond.

What's in a name?

Overnight tonight the clocks are turned back one hour taking us out of British Summer Time and back to GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). Quite apart from looking forward to an 'extra' hour I am also looking forward to once more arising in the mornings with light already in the sky, being one of life's owls and most definitely not a lark. The scientific among us of course are aware that Time itself is not changed by this altering of the clocks.

Vicars only work one day a week!

Some of the congregation here at St M's said my introduction on this website is too much like an essay on the Work and Office of a Priest  - so here is a very different sort of piece on what I did last week which will give visitors to this page of our website a little peek into what this Vicar did outside taking the Sunday services.
